5 Takeaways from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra

Intro

In September 2014, I was 28 years old, working around the clock, and feeling totally uninspired.

As I was waiting to get on a 9-hour flight, I went into a bookstore and picked up The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.

I didn’t know anything about the book, and I didn’t even know who Deepak Chopra was yet! I just liked the title and got very intrigued.

Little did I know, this book was just about to change the way I saw myself (and life).

The book is short, but it contains all the “tools” you need to achieve success in any area of your life.

Let me show you a few key points and discuss some of the 7 laws.

Then I will also give you a handy example for each point, so you can easily apply some of these laws to your own life.

1.The Law of Pure Potentiality:

This law emphasizes the importance of connecting with our inner selves and recognizing our infinite potential. It encourages us to tap into the field of pure potentiality, which is a state of pure consciousness beyond the limitations of the egoic mind. By cultivating mindfulness, silence, and stillness through practices like meditation, we can connect with our true selves and unleash our inner power.

Example: Sarah, a busy professional, incorporates a daily meditation practice into her routine. She spends 15 minutes each morning sitting in silence, focusing on her breath, and connecting with her inner self. This practice helps her quiet her mind, access her intuition, and tap into her limitless potential for creativity and problem-solving throughout her day.

2. The Law of Giving and Receiving:

This law emphasizes the power of giving and receiving in our lives. It encourages us to cultivate a mindset of generosity, compassion, and gratitude, and to freely give without expectations of receiving in return. By creating a positive flow of energy through giving and receiving, we open ourselves up to abundance and fulfillment.

Example: Mark, a successful entrepreneur, believes in the power of giving back to his community. He regularly donates a portion of his profits to local charitable organizations and volunteers his time to mentor young entrepreneurs. He does so without expecting anything in return, but he notices that the positive energy he puts out through his acts of giving comes back to him in the form of increased business opportunities, meaningful connections, and a sense of fulfillment.

3. The Law of Karma or Cause and Effect:

This law highlights the principle of cause and effect, stating that every action we take has a corresponding consequence. It encourages us to be mindful of our thoughts, words, and actions, as they shape our reality and have a ripple effect in our lives. By choosing positive thoughts, words, and actions, we can create a positive cycle of karma that brings us closer to success and fulfillment.

Example: Lisa, a young professional, practices mindfulness and self-awareness in her daily life. She pays attention to her thoughts, words, and actions and makes a conscious effort to cultivate positivity, kindness, and compassion in her interactions with others and herself. She notices that her positive attitude and actions create a ripple effect, leading to improved relationships, increased opportunities, and a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

4. The Law of Least Effort:

This law emphasizes the power of surrender and going with the flow of life, rather than struggling against it. It encourages us to let go of resistance, embrace acceptance, and take inspired action in alignment with our inner selves. By finding the path of least resistance and allowing life to unfold naturally, we can tap into the effortless flow of the universe and manifest our desires with ease.

Example: John, a business owner, has learned to let go of his need for control and embrace a more relaxed and trusting approach to his business. Instead of constantly pushing and striving, he has learned to tune into his intuition, make decisions from a place of alignment, and take inspired action. He finds that when he lets go of resistance and allows things to unfold naturally, he experiences less stress and more ease in his business, leading to better results and a greater sense of fulfillment.

5. Practice Gratitude:

Gratitude is a powerful practice that aligns with the Law of Intention and Desire. When you practice gratitude, you cultivate an attitude of appreciation and thankfulness for what you already have and the progress you are making towards your intentions. Here's an expansion on this point, along with an example:

Gratitude is a state of mind and heart that acknowledges the abundance in your life and shifts your focus from what is lacking to what is present. It helps you tap into the positive energy of appreciation and raises your vibration, which further supports the manifestation of your desires.

Example: Let's say you have set an intention to improve your health and well-being. You can practice gratitude by expressing appreciation for the good health you currently have, even if it's not perfect. You can be thankful for your body's ability to move, your senses that allow you to experience the world, and the opportunities you have to nourish your body with nutritious food and engage in physical activities. You can also express gratitude for the progress you are making towards your health goals, such as losing weight, becoming more physically fit, or adopting healthier habits.

Practicing gratitude can also extend to other areas of your life, such as relationships, career, finances, and personal growth. By cultivating an attitude of gratitude, you shift your focus from scarcity to abundance, and you open yourself up to receive more blessings and opportunities.

Here are some practical ways to incorporate gratitude into your daily life:

  1. Gratitude journaling: Set aside a few minutes each day to write down things you are grateful for. It could be simple things like a beautiful sunset, a kind gesture from a friend, or a delicious meal you enjoyed.

  2. Expressing gratitude to others: Take the time to express your appreciation and gratitude to the people in your life. It could be a thank-you note, a kind word, or a heartfelt conversation expressing your gratitude for their presence in your life.

  3. Mindful appreciation: Practice mindfulness and bring awareness to the present moment, noticing and appreciating the beauty and abundance around you. It could be the blooming flowers, the laughter of children, or the warmth of the sun on your face.

  4. Shifting perspective: When facing challenges or setbacks, consciously shift your perspective towards gratitude. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, look for lessons learned, silver linings, and opportunities for growth.

By incorporating gratitude into your daily life, you create a positive mindset, raise your vibration, and align yourself with the energy of abundance, which supports the manifestation of your intentions and desires. Practicing gratitude helps you stay present, focused, and appreciative of the blessings in your life, and motivates you to continue taking inspired action toward your goals.
